Open Day June 2024
Volunteers setting up the site for the open day, in the foreground is the new dry bed. Gwirfoddolwyr yn paratoi’r safle am y diwrnod agored, y gwely sych newydd yn y blaendir.
Dry bed
This bed was created here because it was a raised area, with spoil from the path making. We noticed some plants were not coping with our clay soil which has a tendency for either cracked or super soggy states. Thus we added manure, compost, and sand and planted Thyme, Rosemary, Sea Holly and Sage.
Gwely sych
Crëwyd y gwely yma oherwydd ei fod yn ardal ddyrchafedig, gyda rwbel o’r llwybr yn gwneud. Sylwasom nad oedd rhai planhigion yn ymdopi â’n pridd clai sydd â thueddiad i gyflwr cracio neu gyflwr soeglyd iawn. Felly fe wnaethom ychwanegu tail, compost, a thywod a phlannu Teim, Rhosmari, Celyn y Môr a Saets.
This summer our focus was on the healing nature of plants. Ein ffocws eleni oedd ar natur iachau planhigion.
We have planted up two beds with specific healing plants and we have started to write up brief descriptions of what the plants are useful for. Many have numerous healing qualities like Valerian, Skullcap, Tansy, Motherwort, Wormwood and Selfheal. Rydym wedi plannu dau wely gyda phlanhigion iachau penodol ac rydym wedi dechrau ysgrifennu disgrifiadau byr o’r hyn y mae’r planhigion yn ddefnyddiol ar ei gyfer. Mae gan lawer rinweddau iachau niferus fel Triaglog, Cwcwll, Tansi, Mamlys, Wermod Lwyd a’r Feddyges Las.
Jade Mellor of https://www.facebook.com/wildpickings gave a guided talk through the medicinal beds and also looked at plants naturally found on site like Meadowsweet and Plantain. Rhoddodd Jade Mellor sgwrs dywys drwy’r gwelyau meddyginiaethol ac edrychodd hefyd ar blanhigion sydd i’w cael yn naturiol ar y safle fel Erwain/ Brenhines y Ddôl a Llyriad.
Jade’s plant ID board. Bwrdd adnabod planhigion Jade.
Herbal Journey with Maia from Aderyn https://www.facebook.com/aderyn.pembs
Maia gave us a flavour of a different way of understanding plants. She gave us some tea and asked us to tune into what effect it had on us: It’s smell, flavours, images, and effects on our body. We shared our self reflections with the group and it was incredibly interesting listening to people’s responses to elder flower. This guided plant meditation was held at our regular lunch spot by the medicinal bed overlooking the Teifi marshes.
Taith Lysieuol gyda Maia o Aderyn https://www.facebook.com/aderyn.pembs
Rhoddodd Maia flas i ni o ffordd wahanol o ddeall planhigion. Rhoddodd ychydig o de i ni a gofynnodd i ni diwnio i mewn i’r effaith a gafodd arnon ni: ei arogl, blasau, delweddau, ac effeithiau ar ein corff. Fe wnaethom rannu ein hunan-fyfyrdodau gyda’r grŵp ac roedd yn hynod ddiddorol gwrando ar ymatebion pobl i flodyn Ysgawen. Cynhaliwyd y myfyrdod planhigion tywysedig hwn yn ein man cinio rheolaidd ger y gwely meddyginiaethol yn edrych dros corsydd Teifi.

Storytelling
Sonia https://www.facebook.com/caravanof.storytellers and Claire http://earthplay.org.uk worked with children in the run-up to the Open Day to create two stories which wove in healing plants and escapades of creatures.
Sonia and her group were in the woods and their performance moved about. (See the video) and Claire’s group was held by the medicinal bed with Mike Playing didgeridoo and drums.
Adrodd straeon
Bu Sonia https://www.facebook.com/caravanof.storytellers a Claire http://earthplay.org.uk yn gweithio gyda phlant yn y cyfnod cyn y Diwrnod Agored i greu dwy stori a oedd yn gweu wrth wella planhigion a dihangfeydd creaduriaid. .
Roedd Sonia a’i grŵp yn y goedwig a symudodd eu perfformiad o gwmpas. (Gweler y fideo) a chynhaliwyd grŵp Claire ger y gwely meddyginiaethol gyda Mike yn chwarae didgeridoo a drymiau.
Alice told her tales at the end of the evening.
Adroddodd Alice ei chwedlau ar ddiwedd y noson.
Volunteers taking a break. Its a great deal of work setting up the garden to receive people for an open day. What we hadn’t realised that Unearthed festival, a kite festival day and the build-up to Glastonbury were all on at the same time.
Gwirfoddolwyr yn cymryd hoe. Mae’n dipyn o waith sefydlu’r ardd i dderbyn pobl ar gyfer diwrnod agored. Yr hyn nad oeddem wedi sylweddoli bod gŵyl Unearthed, diwrnod gŵyl barcud a’r cyfnod cyn Glastonbury i gyd ymlaen ar yr un pryd.
This meant we didn’t get the numbers we have been used to previously. However, the quality of the talks and demos was excellent and the visitors were all very engaged.
Roedd hyn yn golygu na chawsom y niferoedd yr ydym wedi arfer â hwy o’r blaen. Roedd ansawdd y sgyrsiau a’r arddangosiadau yn rhagorol ac roedd yr ymwelwyr yn ymgysylltu’n fawr
Raphaelle did a wonderful demonstration of cordage made from nettles. There were alot of people interested in this.
Gwnaeth Raphaelle arddangosiad gwych o gordage wedi’i wneud o ddanadl poethion. Roedd llawer o bobl â diddordeb yn hyn.
Claire and Dawn did a demonstration of making a tincture from lemon balm and making a salve from plantain, calendula and pine.
Gwnaeth Claire a Dawn arddangosiad o wneud trwyth o falm lemwn a gwneud salf o lyriad, calendula a phinwydd.
